Lady Gaga, the "retarded" word problem
In an interview for the NME Magazine, the singer was answering to those who accused her of plagiarism in her last single "Born this way". She said that comparing her son with Madonna's "Express yourself" is a "retarded" think to do. More, she explained that the only similarity is the "chord progression", present in the disco songs for the last 50 years.
She answered very straight to those who accused her of stealing Madonna's 1989 song, saying that she is a songwriter, not a thief. More, she added that having the courage of bringing an old chord in the top of the best music from the present is a very smart thing.
Later, she appeared on CNN and told she is sorry if anyone was offended by her statement. She was nervous and furious and the "retarded" word was unintentional. The 25 years old famous musician has plans for braking the normal boundaries of the actual music and she described that as part of her life. People from Mencap, a mental health group, said that the statement is an offence for the people with such problems. More, they think that the musician should apologies for speaking this way about someone with that kind of problems.
This is not the first time when Stefani Joanne Germanotta, known as Lady Gaga, is facing plagiarism problems. After the launching of the "Alejandro" hit, the tabloid press and the blogs were full of arguments about the similarities with the Ace of Base's hit from 1994, "Don't turn around". The Ace of Base's fans and the Gaga's contestants criticized her very much because the identical melodic line, they said.
The attention of the issue was switched off because of the mixing with other accusation, of similarities with some hits from ABBA or Shakira. The conclusion was that "Alejandro" hit is an original song, in Gaga's spirit and it was a huge success.
The "retarded" word is bringing the stars a lot of problems. The last time when a famous artist used it, the reaction was similar. Last year, Jennifer Aniston was promoting her last movie, "The Switch" and she was answering to a question related to a photo shooting, made for a better life, "like a retard". The Arc's non-profit company, Peter Berns, who is supporting the people with mental disorders, criticized the actress for her way of speaking, considering this is an offence to the people in need. At that moment, the Aniston's staff didn't answered to the actress's blunder.
