Steven Spielberg to receive Selznick Achievement Award

Filmmaker and producer Steven Spielberg is to receive next year's David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures, the Producers Guild of America announced on Wednesday, 21 September.

Spielberg will receive the distinction at the 2012 Producers Guild Awards, which will be held on 21 January, at Hollywood's Beverly Hilton Hotel. The David O. Selznick Achievement Award was established with the purpose of honouring the "outstanding" body of work of a producer. The recipient of this year's award was Scott Rudin, who produced "No Country for Old Men", "There Will Be Blood" and "The Social Network", among other films. Paula Wagner and Michael Manheim, co-chairs of the Producers Guild Awards, said in a statement that Steven Spielberg's "genius, imagination and fearlessness" was "unmatched" in the film industry. They continued by praising Spielberg for producing some of the "most iconic" movies in cinema history.
